Knocking on wood...

...Or at least I should have been.

I was hesitant to even say we would be going home on Saturday... knowing that you never really know when you'll get the go ahead to head out of the NICU. With Adalyn we almost didn't get to take her home when we did. But William- he is such a champ! OF COURSE we'd be heading home... even his Nurse Practitioner was certain. But, William had other plans.

This morning William had another episode of SVT (high heart rate for a prolonged period of time [his was about 3 minutes]). His nurse practitioner (who has a pretty great sense of humor) said it was because he was nervous about getting his "pencil sharpened" today. But, I digress. The GOOD news is- they were able to get an EKG with pictures of all the different stages of the episode for the pediatric cardiologist. William is now taking a medicine to help calm down the activity in there and based on the cardiologist's opinion- we'd still be good to go tomorrow. So, now to convince the neonatologist and nurse practitioner that it is still a good idea. :D

If not, we're still headed home super soon- Monday at the latest. William will continue on the medicine and we'll follow up with the cardiologist. We feel so blessed that they were able to get the EKG and that all in all, William is a healthy little guy. He's weighing in at 5 lbs. 12.8 oz. so small, and yet, so much bigger than he was just a month ago. We're completely in love with our boy and so glad he's a part of our family.

As people say out here in the Midwest all the time (and many times through this experience)- God is good. And He is. I'm so grateful for the love, guidance and help we have received from Him through this. It isn't the hardest thing that could happen- but He has still been there and will continue to be there for each of us through each moment. Yes, God is good.

God is there through the hard and through the not-so-hard-but-still-not-what-I-would-have-chosen-if-I-had-my-choice, and He is so very good. These moments (or weeks, as it were) help us refocus on what's really important and recenter our lives just a little ... or a lot. Good for you for finding the joy and the humor in the world around you. There is always peace to be found, even in the storm. Here's wishing for smooth sailing ahead for your beautiful family!
